Jim
Scatuorchio, a retired stockbroker, has been in the thoroughbred
business for over 30 years. His first stake in the industry was
with a gelding named Shoot And Dash that cost him $3000. His stable
has blossomed over the years to include such standouts as More Than
Ready,
English Channel, Tale
of the Cat (in partnership) and Scat
Daddy. Scat Daddy, eatly favorite for the for this weekend's Florida Derby, won last time out in The Fountain of Youth Stakes at Gulfstream Park. Scat Daddy is now partly owned by Michael Tabor and is trained by Todd Pletcher. Scat Daddy was named by Todd Pletcher, longtime trainer for Mr. Scatuorchio. Pletcher had been telling him for years he was going to name a horse after "Scat", a nickname of Mr. Scatuorchio and this horse seemed to fit the bill perfectly. Scat Daddy is a very attractive, athletic colt with a lot of personality. He is rambunctious but will sweeten up if you give him a few mints.
English Channel another bright light for Mr. Scatuorchio and Todd Pletcher will be running this weekend in the US$5 million Dubai Duty Free (UAE-I). Mr. Scatuorchio said, " English Channel has never done anything wrong. He goes out against the best competition and he always competes for the win." English Channel has earned nearly 6 million dollars. Mr. Scatuorchio has a soft spot for More Than Ready. This horse was on the Derby Trail in 2000. He won the Hutheson Stakes, came in 2nd in the Louisiana Derby, 2nd in the Toyota Bluegrass and went on to the Kentucky Derby but all fell short to Fusaichi Pegasus on that May day. More Than Ready went on to win the King's bishop Stakes later that year. More Than Ready finished his racing career with 16 starts,7 Wins, 4 -2nds, and 1- 3rd. He retired with over a million dollars in earnings. He now earns his keep in the breeding shed at the Vinery, where he stands for $40,000. Mr. Scatuorchio currently
has 9 horses in training and 10 more on the farm in Ocala, FL. HorseHats.com
has been working with Mr.. Scatuorchio for a few years and
there isn't a nicer guy in the racing business. We wish him all the best
this weekend with English Channel and Scat Daddy.
