Ranked third on the North American general sire and juvenile
sire lists in 1993, Kris S. sired 63 individual stakes winners,
including 30 group/graded stakes winners, from his first
17 crops.
Hollywood Wildcat, who went on to produce 2000 Breeders’ Cup
Mile (G1) winner War Chant, won 12 of 21 career starts for
$1,432,160 in earnings and won the Eclipse Award as champion
three-year-old filly in 1993. She won the Breeders’ Cup
Distaff (G1), Hollywood Oaks (G1), and Del Mar Invitational
Oaks (G1) during her championship season.
Hollywood Wildcat is one of five Breeders’ Cup winners
sired by Kris S., along with Soaring Softly, Prized,
Brocco, and Action This Day.
Named champion grass mare in 1999, Soaring Softly won the
inaugural Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Turf (G1) that
season at Gulfstream Park, along with the ’99 Flower
Bowl Invitational Handicap (G1) at Belmont Park. She won
nine of 16 career starts for $1,270,433 in earnings.
Prized, who won the 1989 Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1),
is Kris S.’s leading earner with a bankroll of $2,262,555
from a mark that included nine wins, two seconds, and three
thirds from 17 career starts. Brocco, who currently stands
in Japan, won the 1993 Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1)
and ’94 Santa Anita Derby (G1).
In addition to his five Breeders’ Cup winners, Kris
S. has sired major stakes winners Kissin Kris, Machikane
Allegro, Dr Fong, Kudos, You and I, Adonis, Class Kris,
Evening Kris, Cheval Volant, Stocks Up, and Arch. He had
lifetime progeny earnings of over $50,000,000.
Kris S. was owned by Kris S Robillard, who was also the
inspiration for his name.
Kris S. is buried at WinStar Farm in a handcrafted
pine casket painted in the farm’s colors and emblazoned
with its logo.
