Lion Heart was one of the best three year-old colts in 2004, and if not for Smarty Jones, he might be considered a superstar. The son of Tale of the Cat won all three starts as a juvenile, including stakes wins in the G3 Hollywood Prevue and G1 Hollywood Futurity. As a sophomore, he ran two huge races while falling just short in the G2 San Rafael and G1 Blue Grass. All primed for a top effort in the Kentucky Derby, Lion Heart again fired his best shot, but ran into buzz saw named Smarty Jones.
