Bluegrass Cat Retired
WinStar Farm's Bluegrass Cat, runner-up in Saturday's Travers Stakes (gr. I), has been retired after x-rays taken Sunday morning revealed a fractured right hind pastern.
Trainer Todd Pletcher said the son of Storm Cat, who also finished second in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) and Belmont Stakes, cooled out fine after Saturday's Travers at Saratoga. On Sunday morning, however, he was lame in his stall and the x-rays revealed the non-displaced fracture.

WinStar, the Central Kentucky farm where Pletcher indicated that Bluegrass Cat was scheduled to be retired to stud upon completion of his racing career, planned an announcement for later on Sunday.

Bluegrass Cat won five of 11 starts, including the Haskell Invitational (gr. I) and the Tampa Bay Derby (gr. III) this year. As a 2-year-old, he won the Remsen (gr. II) and Nashua Stakes (gr. III). He retires with earnings of $1,761,280.
