Gatorize works in
preperation for Breeder's Cup After breaking her maiden in her career debut at Ellis Park, Gatorize won an optional claimer under allowance conditions at Turfway Park. She then finished fifth in the Alcibiades (gr. II) at Keeneland. In another Juvenile Fillies development, Cohiba Miss, who is second on the preference list that will be used should any of the top 14 horses in the race defect, was scratched out of the Pocahontas Stakes (gr. III) on the Churchill opening day card Sunday. Steve Haskin's comments
on Gatorize as a Breeders' Cup prospect: "The filly that really interests
me is Gatorize, who was fifth in the Alcibiades. She
was far back, and then unleashed a powerful run on the far turn. I loved
the way she accelerated. She got fanned some seven wide and closed very
strongly to be beaten around four lengths. I like her trainer, Helen Pitts,
and I feel she has a big shot at a price."
